Breastfeeding Mothers Across the UK Celebrate The Big Breastfeeding Cafe

This Wednesday hundreds of breastfeeding mothers across the UK joined together to share advice, tips and more for The Big Breastfeeding Cafe 2016!

On Wednesday 18th May, we launched The Big Breastfeeding Cafe, a brand new initiative to bring breastfeeding mothers together to celebrate and chat all things breastfeeding, share experiences, advice and support each other. With over 40 cafes hosted across the UK including London, Yorkshire, Norfolk, Cambridge and Northern Ireland, it truly was an amazing celebration of not only breastfeeding but essential mum to mum support.

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram were full of excitement as mums nationwide shared their photos, updates and discussions on breastfeeding which included returning to work, breastfeeding in public, breastfeeding past 12 months, the highs and lows of their feeding experiences and lots more.

The creative new campaign also caught the attention of new celebrity mum, Izzy Judd, musician and wife of McFly drummer, Harry Judd. Izzy shared a photo on Instagram to her 162,000 strong following of a Big Breastfeeding Cafe balloon to show her support for the campaign. You can view the photo here.

Following our survey commissioned last year we were determined to take our monthly online Breastfeeding Café to the next level. An overwhelming 76% of mums expressed that they believed talking with other mums at support groups helped to not only reassure them, but actually support their feeding journey. It became very clear that chatting to other mums is invaluable and we are so pleased we have been able to promote the importance of this type of support with the help of wonderful mums across the UK!

Commenting on our new campaign, Charlotte Price, Marketing Manager at Medela UK Headquarters said:

“We are thrilled by the success of The Big Breastfeeding Cafe. It is just fantastic to see so many mums supporting the initiative by hosting their own Breastfeeding Cafes to discuss all things breastfeeding - the amazing moments as well as the challenges – over a cup of tea and slice of cake.

We know that every feeding journey is unique however there are common difficulties and speaking to other breastfeeding mums who have experienced and managed these challenges first hand is a brilliant way to seek advice and learn some new tips! There was lots of excitement at Medela on Wednesday as we watched the campaign unfold and we’re already thinking about next year’s Big Breastfeeding watch this space!

Did you take part in The Big Breastfeeding Cafe? We’d love to see your photos and hear about your discussions, please do share them with us over on our Facebook page.

Following the amazing success of the campaign this year, we are already busily thinking about how we can improve The Big Breastfeeding Cafe and how to make it even bigger next year!
