Our Favourite Books for Mums

What do you have to have beside you for a pumping session? Our vote has to go to a good book and a hot cup of tea so we thought we’d share some of our favourite books for mums…

We know how busy being a mum can be… If you’re after a light and humorous read, then this Mumsnet favourite sounds right up your street. Called ‘How Not to Be a Perfect Mother’ this book will navigate you through the early years of being a parent.


  1. The Unmumsy Mum

The Unmumsy Mum writes truthfully about the role and responsibilities of being a mother, it expresses throughout that there is no one size fits all when parenting. She gives you a clear insight into the problems she had as a new mum, and allows the reader to see how she dealt

with them! This is a must read and funny book for any new mum!


  1. Smoke and Mirrors

This ‘Hansel and Gretle’ styled crime book is a perfect read for any thriller loving mummy! It’s written by the ridiculously successful Elly Griffiths who has built an extremely loyal fan base from her previous crime novels.


  1. The Gift

The Gift is absolutely sure to enthral any mum – you will be obsessed with finding Callie’s Killer. If you’re going to read this book quickly find a comfy chair because trust us as soon as you sit down and start reading you won’t be able to stop!


  1. Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility is a classic and if you haven’t read it by now, then it is an absolute must read! This Jane Austin novel is set in 1811 and tells you the story of the Dashwood Sisters. You watch them experience love, romance and heartbreak.

Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, is widely known as one of the greatest pieces of English literature. It focuses on love and passion mixed with social class and revenge. It may not be the book of the moment but this classic is definitely one for your library!

If you love Jodi Picoult and haven’t read her newest book, then this is a must read. Notably Picoult’s most important book to date, people are calling it the 'To Kill a Mockingbird’ of the 21st Century.
