My Breastfeeding Story: How I Got Over My Apprehensions About Pumping Milk and Found My Love for it!

Next in our series of real mums’ breastfeeding stories, we hear from Kitty, a first-time mum who gave birth to her daughter in June. Finding the right pump was important to Kitty if she was going to be able to be pumping milk, and the Swing Flex proved perfect for her expressing journey!

I always knew I wanted to breastfeed, and when my daughter CeCe was born, I had a couple of rough days trying to get the hang of it! After Day 3, it started to get better. There have been some difficult times, but I have persevered – mainly because it felt like the best way to protect my baby during the pandemic!

Around 2 weeks into my breastfeeding journey, I knew I wanted to start considering pumping milk. I did a poll on my Instagram to see which was the breast pump on the market, and the Swing Flex came out as the winner with an overwhelming majority! I wanted a tried and tested pump which real mums recommended, and I have to say I’m so impressed!

My main reason to start expressing so soon into breastfeeding was so that my husband could share the feeding and bonding time with his daughter, and also that if I needed to pop out, I wouldn’t worry about my baby going hungry! The Swing Flex is allowing me to express easily, and create a good backup of milk in the freezer for those ‘just in case’ moments I had been worried about.

Breastfeeding can be hard enough in those first few weeks, so I really needed a pump that wouldn’t cause me anymore stress! I’m not very technical, but the functions on the Swing Flex were really easy to use and setting it up was hassle free.

Another brilliant aspect of this pump is how small and quiet the pump is! I’ve been able to pump while the baby is sleeping with no issues, in fact I think she quite likes the white noise.

I like how you can adapt the suction up or down to suit your flow, and it’s so quick to switch on and off. I usually use it attached to the mains but the battery function is really handy in case I need to pump on the go. As the baby has gotten older, I’ve been using it more while out and about, so I purchased the Easy Expression Bustier which allows you to use the pump hands-free – a real life saver!

Expressing is no longer a fear for me, but actually a comfort due to the ease of the Swing Flex. If I’m lucky enough to have another baby I will start expressing sooner. My daughter didn’t take well to formula, and will only take expressed milk so next time I might just express the whole time if possible, and will definitely be using the same pump.

I whole-heartedly recommend the Swing Flex and have already mentioned how brilliant it is to all of my mum friends.
