Being a parent can be stressful, it can be exhausting and it can be hard work but one thing it will always be, is incredible. You will watch your little one develop, learn and grow in to a fully-fledged adult and before you know it, you’ll be looking back on those newborn days felling like they were just yesterday!

To help take a moment to reflect and make the most of your parenting journey, here are our Top 10 Tips for Positive Parenting!

  1. Trust your Instincts.
You know your family and your children better than anyone. If you think something is wrong, run with it until proved otherwise. Chances are you’ll be right!

  2. Say No.
It is impossible to do everything and please everyone. If you have to say no to yet another birthday party invitation or a visit from family/friends, then do. Sometimes, you need quality time for your little family and it is important children have a rest and some free time to relax and slow down.

  3. Look after yourself.
It goes without saying that if you feel well, happy and content, then you will better be able to support your growing children. Take time for yourself, even its just half an hour – enjoy some ‘Me’ time!

  4. Reach out for Support.
Everyone needs a little help now and then. Having a network of support is crucial, whether it be friends or family. If you don’t have relatives and friends around, reach out in your community, visit your local play group or parenting support group.

  5. Let them Be.
Encourage your children to try new activities, learn lots and discover the world but ultimately let them be. They will find their way and discover their own interests.

  6. Live in the Present.
Mindfulness is becoming hugely popular and its foundation is on living in the present moment. It is true, you will never get this moment again – enjoy it, make the most of it and most importantly live it!

  7. Don’t Compare.
All children are different and all parents are different. Respect others’ parenting styles and remember that children develop at different speeds and reach milestones in their own time. Don’t compare, we are all unique.

  8. Take an Interest in Others.
If you have family and friends who don’t have children, remember this. It is hard sometimes to think of anything that doesn’t relate back to your children but save the mummy chat for just that! Take an interest in your other friends’ lives to show them you’re still there and still care.

  9. Say ‘I Love you.’
You cannot say these three little words enough, children need to know they are cared for and can come to you with anything. The start of their life is a stepping stone for years to come – show them that you love them and will always be there.

  10. Cherish every Moment.
However big or small, you are creating memories each and every day, treasure each day and moment with your children, you don’t get to re-live it!
