Reflective Parenting: My Breastfeeding Promise
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream” Well said C.S Lewis! As we begin 2019, we look at reflective parenting and the goals and dreams parents set, to their children, each other and themselves.
As a new year begins and everyone starts to think about New Year’s Resolutions, we are thinking about breastfeeding and parenting promises. Did you make a breastfeeding promise to yourself or your little one? Did this change as you started your breastfeeding journey?
We asked our community of #medelamums on our Medela UK Facebook page and received such lovely responses, we just had to share them!
“To not give up, even when it gets hard. Only day 3 and finding it tough, but going to persevere!” – Mum, Katie
“I promised I’d feed for as long as possible.” – Mum, Emma
“I promised not to let it get to me or get stressed out if it wasn’t working well. 10 weeks of successful combi feeding with majority breastmilk so I feel like I’ve succeeded.” – Mum, Laura
“To feed for at least 3 months, then 6 months and now making myself promise that a hospital stay (my wee boy has been in twice with bronchiolitis already) will not stop me breastfeeding him. He is 6 months today.”
“I promised my little girl 18 months like I gave her big brother. 15 months now and don’t ever want to stop as she’s my last baby.” – Mum, Zoe
“To take each day as it comes.” – Mum, Kay
“My baby is now 11 months old, still breastfeeding, the aim was to hit 12 months! J” – Mum, Kimberly Find out more about the long-term benefits of breastfeeding on our website.
“I promised that I would try to exclusively breastfeed. Unfortunately, because little one ended up in the neo natal for a few nights, a midwife on the night shift forced formula on us. Since getting home he has been exclusively breastfed and is thriving.” – Mum, Amie
