Self Care for New Mums - Our Tips and Tricks!
This March is the perfect time for some self care for new mums, with International Women’s Day earlier this month and also Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday 31st March. We take a look at 5 Top Tips for ensuring busy mums, take a moment to reflect, refresh and re-energise during those first few weeks.
Becoming a mother and breastfeeding your baby brings a whole new meaning to the terms ‘busy,’ ‘multi-tasking’ and ‘exhausted.’ Not only are you recovering from a life changing experience, you are also getting to know your newborn baby, trying to catch some rest and get breastfeeding established.
This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is #BalanceforBetter, a call-to-action to celebrate achievements, challenge bias and drive gender balance across the world. With this and Mother’s Day in mind, self care for mums is more important than ever! We thought we’d take a look at the ways that busy mums can take some much needed me-time out to re-group and refresh.
- Have a Shower/Bath
In the early days of motherhood, it can be a complete haze. You will be on an emotional rollercoaster as you get to grips with getting to know and looking after your new bundle of joy. During this time, you’ll be tired and even a little groggy. Don’t forget to take a refreshing shower or take a few minutes to have a soak in the bath. You’ll feel refreshed and 100 times better!
- Turn away from screens
Put down your smart phone, laptop or iPad and turn off the television. Take 10 minutes to sit down, rest your senses and take a breath. A simple yet effective way to regroup.
- Take a Moment to be Mindful
Mindfulness might not be something you’re familiar with, however in essence, it is the practice of being aware and enjoying the present. To start, try making a cup of tea mindfully, being fully aware of your actions and senses. You’ll be surprised how being mindfully aware of such a simple task can bring you back to the present. - Ask for Help
If you’re feeling like you could do with a helping hand, don’t be afraid to ask. Family and friends are there to support you and will always be happy to help. If that’s putting on a load of washing, cooking a meal or simply a chat, don’t hesitate to ask.
- Treasure Every Moment
Don’t forget to cherish every moment with your newborn baby. They’ll only be this small once and you’ll be amazed by how quickly the time goes!
